Every core system your organization renews in the next three years will arrive with AI features attached, whether or not you asked for them. Nine percent of local governments have an AI policy. Nearly all of them have AI in their software contracts. It arrived through renewals and feature releases, not through the strategic plan — which means your vendors’ lawyers have been writing your AI policy for you.
We’ll put four real contract clauses on screen, and you’ll vote, hands up, on whether you’d sign each one. Then we’ll unpack what they actually mean: who can use your data to train models, who’s liable when an automated output is wrong, and what happens to your data when you leave.
